We are a diverse team of students from University of California, Riverside dedicated to exploring robotics of all applications. Drawing from across all STEM disciplines, we focus on advancing the art of autonomous technology and using systems engineering principles in a real project.
We are creating a sustainable foundation for future years, and expanding the project to become the premier project of UCR’s Bourns College of Engineering. Our team is twenty-five strong, composed almost entirely of undergraduate students. |

Meet Our Executive Board
Zinal Patel
Project Coordinator & Team Lead
Zinal is a 4th year undergraduate at University of California, Riverside pursuing a major in Bioengineering and a minor in Computer Science. Her passion for robotics engineering began in high school through FIRST robotics where she competed for four years. Now she has been a part of UCR RoboSub for three years, working previously on the mechanical and simulations subteams.
Her goal this year is to push this team to its first in-person competition after COVID closures and ensure that all members can apply and grow their engineering skills without any barriers. She welcomes you to the UCR and the RoboSub team! |
Jose De Leon
Mechanical Lead
The Mechanical team creates the physical structure of the submarine, working with top-down design patterns to create the submarine from conception to completion. Subgroups for components give leadership and small-group experience for members. We use Solidworks to create our models and manufacturing drawings.

Dion Ngo
Electrical Lead
The Electrical team creates and organizes the electrical subsystems and sensors within the submarine, designing circuitry, creating PCBs, and networking components. We use Altium Designer to create our PCB diagrams.
|
Software Leads
The Software team gives the submarine life, creating the artificial intelligence, computer vision, and software interface modules that allow the robot to see, sense, and move. We use Robot Operating System (ROS), Python, and C/C++ for our controls.

Jason Qiu
Business & Sponsorships Lead
The Business & Sponsorships team manages the project from a high level: contacting companies for sponsorships, maintaining social media accounts, managing project organization and water tests, and assisting the other teams with outreach and contact.
